Self Containment Certificate
Camping responsibly and save money
There are hundreds of campervan park options in New Zealand, however, by choosing Heron Campers, you also have the flexibility to stay for free at designated freedom camping locations. These locations are often set amongst New Zealand’s untouched landscapes giving you that extra special wonderland that other travellers won’t get to experience.
The official Self Containment Certification means the vehicle adhers to a set of industry standards issued by the New Zealand Motor Caravan Association (NZMCA) to ensure you are camping responsibly. Specifically, our vehicles pose minimal risk to the environment and public health.
To obtain the sticker the vehicle must have:
- Fresh water supply: 4L per person per day (i.e. minimum 12L per person)
- A sink
- Toilet: 1L per person per day
- Holding tank: 4L per person per day (i.e. minimum 12L per person) and monitored if capacity is less than the fresh water tank
- An evacuation hose
- A sealable refuse container (with lid)
